Austin – Day 5 – December 7, 2013

Just talked to two different doctors, yep by 7:20 am we already had two different doctors step in (the Internal Medicine and Hematology Departments are working together).

Hemoglobin count is 6.6, hoping with this morning’s draws the results will go higher, other labs are looking better and they *think the treatment might be working.

If all goes well today he will switch to oral steroids.

He's awake now, lying in bed, I've got our hospital routine down, creating a routine, I want to get him in the bathroom and all cleaned up but its shift change and it's difficult to get supplies I might need, new gown, more wipes, etc. during shift change.   Besides - if I wait a little longer Jerry could have a turn at it :-)

The real fun stuff might be just starting, he's feeling better, more alert, all the pokes and probes may bug him more and I don't think all the meds, especially the steroids, are going to help keep him calm and quiet.

Oh well, one minute, one hour, and one day at a time.

hugs, Sally

A later in the day facebook post ...
Oh my goodness, I can tell Austin is feeling better he hasn't stopped talking

* Nice hair babe

* You look pretty toots (I feel like I've aged a 1,000 years)

* What's up babe

* Want a kissing babe

* Do you want a kissing

* I love you

* Do you love me babe

And I mean NON-stop, while typing this message I think he's cycled through all the phrases above at least three times.

When it comes time to be checked out I've got to tell staff to not tell Austin cause he'll want to leave right away, gotta plan ahead. I'm gonna be one happy momma when I don't have to watch the History Channel ALL day! At least most of the day was a little educational since we watched the Hatfields and McCoys, and yesterday we watched Miracle Rising: South Africa about Nelson Mandela. Sadly, we have now moved on to the History Channel Reality shows.

Looking a lot better! Mom is rewarding him with a few M &Ms and a Dew. It was pretty easy to find
the Flex in the morning when I went to go home to shower. And this must be the season that keeps giving - if you leave the garage at 8;30 am its on the house.
