Good Morning All. Hope everyone is fine, my world would be so very small right now without our lovely technology. Nice to escape this place even if it's only through the internet.
Well we managed through the night, a lot more irritable than what I've seen in the last 11 days, and it just dawned on me, could be the missed med dose yesterday. Not only did they forget to give him his steroids yesterday morning they forgot his Abilify. If mom wasn't so sleep deprived maybe she would have caught that (yesterday morning was a little busy preparing for the room change and the surgery.) I would have gotten a dose for him last night but if he took it then it would change all of his Abilify doses to a pm dose instead of an am dose while we are in the hospital, so we're riding it out.
They drew blood at 4 am so hopefully early this morning we'll get a hemoglobin count, hoping, praying, we are at least in the 6s.
Our new room is in the West Pavilion. I'll get a little more exercise, quite the hike to Biggby coffee for my 2 x day Mocha Mocha, I don't think I'll be taking the stairs up and down since we are on the sixth floor. It was officially confirmed this morning, I've been here far too long since I just earned my free coffee on the Biggby rewards program.
With our room number 662 out of curiosity I looked to see if they had a 666 - for the record, they don't.
Hugs, Sally
8:45 am 2nd update
One of the surgeons just stopped in, said he did very well with surgery, told Austin he could have liquids this am, his internal med doctor has been by already, said he's pleased with the results.
Hemoglobin is up to 8.5, YEAH! Double what it was yesterday.
Hugs, Sally
Evening Update
Last hemoglobin count was 8.6 but they are only poking him for blood now once every 12 hours. He's still on one IV. He went for a short walk down the hall with Dad and Tony his Nurse Assistant today. Mom is making him get up every so often to use the bathroom, he is doing well with an IV poll tagging along. If we're gonna do that much longer we're gonna have to name the pole.
Today when I drove home I went at a more leisurely pace, took a little more time at home and did some banking. Jerry was with him and right after lunch Jerry got to help staff with him after he tossed his cookies (poor guy, the last day he could eat before surgery, on Wednesday, he had lunch and dinner, and after dinner both didn't stay down, poor Mickey has gotten dirty in both instances.) Because the girls aren't home(Genevieve is in Milwaukee for a hockey showcase and Natalie is out to celebrate Alex's birthday) this evening I did get a phone call from Jerry on how to operate the washer and dryer, Thinking maybe I should make Jerry a social story on doing laundry. Now I'm trusting all of you to keep this on the DL. Many thanks to Jason for keeping Jer in the loop about how the team is doing in Milwaukee, Jerry forwards texts to me.
The surgeons were talking about discharging him today, but that was ONLY from the surgical floor (yep - looks like another move could be in our future). Because he got sick after lunch they've kept him and put him back on a clear diet - poor kid he only ate the Jell-o for dinner. I had my hopes just soaring and his main surgeon knocked them down a little. Yep, hemoglobin count is good but we must also remember he had two units of blood yesterday.
Hematology doctor feels things are promising and told me I should start noticing changes in his urine, and I do think the color has improved immensely.
I'm hoping we don't have to change rooms again but it is what it is. Makes it just a little more difficult for Austin with not only staff changing often but rooms as well. At least the History Channel is always on Channel 32 :-)
He spent a lot of time today sitting up in a chair and his overall color is better. Whatever happened yesterday that appeared to have given him an allergic reaction has dissipated but I still don't know what it was, or when it happened, right now I think it was after surgery and before arriving to his room, since the surgeons were clueless.
I'm prepared for the snow storm tomorrow, brought some extra clothes today, depending on the weather, and if I have another night here (which I'm thinking we will) I may not drive home and back. Feeling like the Flex at times is just my storage locker :-).
Have a great Saturday all, and thank you ALL for supporting us throughout this ordeal.
Hugs, Sally
